A Royally Good Party for the King’s Coronation

Our residents and a dog celebrating the Kings Coronation at Ridgeway Rise Care Home

Last weekend, Ridgeway Rise Care Home, like many across the nation, held its very own celebrations for the coronation of King Charles.

In preparation for our coronation celebrations, we decorated our care home in Swindon with union jack flags and balloons both inside and outside.

After setting up a screening for the King's Coronation on our TV, we held a party with lots of different royal-themed activities for our residents to participate in and enjoy. Relatives were also welcomed to join in with the fun and even our resident’s dog Poppy participated in the event.

To start, we hosted a 'Royal Quiz' with lots of questions themed around King Charles, the royal family, and significant moments in its history. There was plenty of discussion around King Charles' life and his succession, and the activities team prepared an information board about all the coronations we have had so far.

With all the royal-themed events, the conversation quickly turned to our residents sharing stories of the different members of the royal family they had met, and it was so lovely for them to reminisce and share these special moments with one another.

It was then time for games, and our highlight of the event was 'Pin the Jewel to the Crown' which had many people laughing and cheering.

It was soon time for food, and our kitchen team made some wonderful quiches and coronation cupcakes for our residents, relatives, and staff to indulge in. Everyone sat around, ate, chatted, laughed, and shared a very special moment in history together.

The royal family has played a significant part in many of our resident's lives so it was very important to us that we helped our residents commemorate this occasion in a special way. Our celebrations brought residents together and helped maintain the national spirit and wider sense of belonging.

In previous coronations, residents used to participate in street parties so we are delighted to have cultivated tradition and brought our very own street party inside. It was a historic event and our staff and residents loved being a part of it. We would like to thank all of those who joined us in celebrating and we look forward to future celebrations with our community.
