A Trip to Dobbies Garden Centre

Our residents on a trip to Dobbies Garden Centre

Residents recently went on a trip to local garden centre, Dobbies, in Swindon.

With Spring just around the corner, we are planning on introducing a greenhouse to our garden as a space where residents and staff can come together to grow their own vegetables and herbs.

Last year we successfully managed to grow our own pumpkins for Halloween, some beans, and cucumbers. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all so this year we are aiming to grow potatoes to use in resident Joe’s famous potato salad recipe.

Every first Wednesday of the month, we hold a resident's meeting at Ridgeway Rise Care Home, and this is when the residents choose their trips for the month. This month they chose a trip to Dobbies, which was a well-received idea as many of our residents are passionate gardeners with vast knowledge in that area, and we want to enable them to pursue and maintain their hobbies.

Residents went to Dobbies and chose the best bulbs, seeds, and tools for their gardening club. Whilst there, they also enjoyed watching exotic fish, speaking to shopkeepers, and most of all having a few laughs over coffee and cake.

It is important to us that we offer each and every resident an abundance of opportunities, from pursuing interests to meeting people and having new experiences. We want our residents to know that they do not have to give up on the activities they love and that we will do all we can to provide them with those moments where they can share experiences and find joy in every day.

Our residents are looking forward to getting their green fingers into the soil and we can't wait to see what they produce.
