Christmas Market at Ridgeway Rise
At Ridgeway Rise Care Home in Swindon, we organised a Christmas Market, open for residents and their families, opening this up to the local Swindon community. With a range of stalls and activities for all to enjoy and get into the Christmas spirit!
In the lead-up to the event, our residents created some homemade invitations and posters and hand-delivered them to our neighbours. It was a great personal touch and opportunity for residents to invite the local community down in person.
This was a great opportunity for us to work with businesses within the community to create a day for all to remember. With a Christmas display set up outside for photo opportunities, with real trees being donated by B&Q. A raffle with cakes donated by our receptionist, Charlie and hampers from our local Co-op and Morrisons. As well as a Santa Hoopla game with amazing donations from Hongxin restaurant, Monica’s Fish Bar, Gorgeous Hair Salon, Tesco, Robin’s Farm, Ridge Bar and Grill, Sally Pussey’s and Sainsbury's.
There was plenty of festive food on offer, from homemade mince pies and hot mulled wine to burgers and hot dogs. There was something for everyone. The market also had a whole range of stalls, with Christmas decorations, sweets, ornaments and jewellery on offer. And a variety of games to bring festive cheer, which were a big hit with the children.
We welcomed Emerson Ferreira from SDA Portugues's Church, who visited with the choir, spreading some amazing Christmas joy with their singing, with familiar Christmas favourites. At Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we deeply value the powerful effects of music. Beyond being a source of pleasure and contentment, music has the remarkable ability to relax the mind and energise the body.
Local restaurant, Harper's Steakhouse also invited down 4 of our residents for a festive meal out in their lovely restaurant. Thank you to Harper's, our residents thoroughly enjoyed their meal!
The Benefits Of Our Christmas Market
Residents loved getting involved in preparations and festive fun. It was a great opportunity for families to spend some time with their loved ones living in a care home, whilst our neighbours had an opportunity to look inside a care home and see what was going on.
This also provided different companies and businesses the chance to do something special in this giving season.
Not only was this fun for all involved, but it was also a great occasion to fundraise some money for activities in the future at Ridgeway Rise. Organising these activities ensures a happy and healthy environment here at Ridgeway Rise Care Home.
