Glad to Care Week 2023

Our staff posing with a thank you cake on Glad to Care Week

Ridgeway Rise Care Home in Swindon was both proud and delighted to take part in Glad to Care Awareness Week last week.

Glad to Care Awareness Week aims to recognise those that work in the care sector and celebrate them for their commitment and contribution to the lives of those that they care for as well as those closest to them.

We hosted a whole week of celebrations for our team here at Ridgeway Rise Care Home, ensuring that each and every person felt recognised and valued for the hard work that they do.

We go to great lengths to ensure that our team members always know how much they are appreciated, and as a result, our residents live in an environment where they are cared for by a positive, friendly, and happy team.

Motivational Monday – It’s a Knock out!

We invited team members to get involved in an obstacle course whilst dressed in oversized clothes. To compete, the team had to jump with skipping ropes, keep a hula hoop going for 5 seconds and then bounce on a space hopper.

It was brilliant fun and a friendly bit of competition, and it had everyone both staff and residents laughing and smiling.

Tasty Tuesday - Charlie’s Sweets Factory

We organised for an old-fashioned sweets trolley with retro sweets to come into the home for all the team members to grab a bag and enjoy throughout their shifts.

To make it that little bit more exciting, there were hidden tickets for the team to find, including a golden ticket which if found entitled the winner to a meal for two, kindly sponsored by our local pub 'Robin’s Farm'.

Wellbeing Wednesday – Wellness Pit-Stop for Team Members

On Wednesday, our Activities team had a little wellbeing treat for their colleagues. The team offer rejuvenating 5-minute breaks, which included hand and back massages, sheet and eye masks, or just a cuppa with sweets.

We also had short meditation sessions throughout the day to support the wellbeing of our team members.

Thankful Thursday – Appreciation Day

To further show appreciation for the team here at Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we asked families, residents, and guests to provide messages of gratitude for our team, written on little stars and displayed at the reception.

It was so heartwarming to hear all the lovely things that were written about our team. To top it off, we held a lucky dip for team members with amazing prizes, sponsored by local businesses.

Feel Good Friday – Non-Uniform Day

On Friday, we held a non-uniform day which was made complete with everyone wearing stickers reading 'I’m Glad to Care'. We played a fun game titled 'Do not come back without!' where the game master was calling out objects that team members had to go and find them, for example, a fork, mask, or slipper. Again, this had both the staff and residents laughing and was a great bit of Friday fun!

We were also very fortunate to have a visit from therapy dog Fenton, which gave everyone a little boost as he went around the team for cuddles and strokes.

The grand finale was the cake baked by our very own Activity Coordinator, Alla for everyone to enjoy. Glad to Care is that special occasion in our annual diary to remember how amazing each and every member of our caring team is. Everyone plays a huge part in creating a safe and fun environment for the residents and we love preparing those events to appreciate and celebrate the team.
