Heartwarming Mother’s Day Celebrations
This year at Ridgeway Rise, we wanted to make sure that the women in our care home were celebrated. Whether they were a mother or nans. Every woman is someone to somebody, an aunt, a cousin. We celebrate them all, especially with the International Women's Day being so close.
We invited the residents and their loved ones to write messages remembering their mum, or how it is to be mum. We collected the messages and put them into a flower patch on our board at the reception. It was lovely to see residents recalling their mum’s favourite sayings, and tips but also seeing messages the residents received from their loved ones.
It was a very emotional activity gathering and writing memories of women who influenced the residents. We heard wonderful stories about how mothers of the past coped with raising children during the war, what simple solutions they had to everyday tasks, that we now use the technology for.
The gentleman of Ridgeway Rise helped to prepare colourful gifts for the ladies. They went on a shopping trip, got multicoloured pots and planted bulbs. We will be now checking who grows the biggest and most beautiful flower.
All the women received cards and wishes. The Kitchen prepared sweet snacks and everyone was treated to a glass of bubbly and a scrumptious cake.
Our care home has been blooming with colourful decorations and been filled with the scent of bouquets and glittery, pretty things over the past few weeks, and have loved the preparations and celebrations throughout.
