Our Team on Sofas

The past 18 months have put more focus than ever on the brilliant staff working at care and residential homes across the UK. But have you ever wondered about the training involved in looking after the elderly and those at risk in our community? Find out more below.

Ridgeway Rise Care Home based in Blunsdon St Andrew, Swindon are leading the way by offering their team lots of opportunities to continuously improve their skills and gain new qualifications.

Supporting the elderly and those with care needs requires a certain level of skills, empathy and knowledge and that’s why Swindon’s brilliant Ridgeway Rise provides an abundance of extra training for their nursing and caring team.

Everyone in the building is required to complete the mandatory training needed to work in the care industry, but this is just the start of their journey in delivering first-class care to their residents.

The ever-changing landscape of the industry means additional training is frequently needed, and with Ridgeway Rise boasting 3 in-house trainers, all training is completed onsite with no need for external companies to be brought in. The advantage is that this means there is no time delay when more advanced competence is required.

Additional training sessions to support residents with specific needs are organised to equip team members in the understanding of symptoms and strategies to manage them in order to provide the best possible care.

Care assistants must also go through their Care Certificate and Ridgeway Rise even has specialist leads in specific areas for example oral hygiene, to make sure the highest standard of care is always being delivered with one nurse even becoming a finalist at the Great British Care Awards in End of Life Care.

When it comes to dining, Ridgeway Rise likes to make their residents feel special and that is why restaurant service standards are met when food is served.

Full and part-time members of the team, including all community volunteers, also come under the homes training programmes. This ensures that every member of staff that comes into Ridgeway Rise has undergone extensive and industry-leading learning with further teaching and qualifications available to all team members.

It can be hard for the individual and their families involved when the decision is made to move from independent living into a care home, but Ridgeway Rise and their brilliant staff always go the extra mile to make sure the highest standards of care are delivered and all residents’ needs and requirements are met.
