Spooktacular Halloween Celebrations
At Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we go above and beyond to celebrate occasions throughout the year that are special to our residents, and this Halloween was no different.
We believe in the importance of celebrating special occasions with our residents throughout the year, and for many, they hold special memories and traditions that they shared with their families. We want to be able to continue those traditions as well as welcome loved ones so that new memories can be made together.
This Halloween, there were many activities going on both in and out of the home. In a real community spirit, we made an entry for the local scarecrow trail. Doris our scarecrow was the talk of the town, with lots of people passing by, taking pictures, and sharing them on social media. Guests visiting the home said she was amazing and very realistic, and we were all delighted to find out that we came in the top 3 out of the 22 scarecrows that participated.
The residents also had such great fun visiting the pumpkin patch which is organised by the local farm. They went through a spooky tunnel, posed for pictures on hay bales with a giant spider, and then enjoyed tea and cakes after.
The pumpkins were then put to good use and formed our Halloween arts and crafts session. The pumpkins were carved and displayed around the home, and it was great for our residents to get creative and see their pumpkin masterpieces on show.
Following on from the picking and carving of the pumpkins, we thought it would be good for the residents to learn all about the history of the Jack O’ Lantern.
On Halloween itself, we prepared a party with some fantastic themed food. Colin, our Activity Coordinator, had everyone laughing as he almost got kidnapped by an alien in a hilarious show he arranged for everyone to enjoy.
After a feast of food, everyone took part in a spooky quiz and 'what’s in the bag?' game. There were Halloween crackers and sweets, and to end the Halloween celebrations, Alla prepared a shadow theatre telling the story of a lost witch.
Halloween has been the perfect end to a month full of fun, engaging, and stimulating activities and we're all looking forward to seeing what the next couple of months in the lead-up to Christmas holds.
