Celebrating National Beach Day with a Hawaiian Party
Tuesday 30th August is also known as #NationalBeachDay and at Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we celebrated with a Hawaiian Themed Party.
Unlike Hawaii, the weather wasn't so kind to us, so we transformed the inside of our home with balloons, inflatable palm trees, and a DIY Tiki Bar! Members of staff and residents were encouraged to wear Hawaiian attire including brightly coloured tops or floral shirts, grass skirts, hula leis, and flower clips in their hair.
We held a competition for the best outfit, as well as a variety of beach-themed games such as pineapple rings, coconut bowling, pail and ball toss, and beach ball activities.
Most popular of all was the limbo that we had set up; residents were overjoyed to show us their skills and dance moves as they went under the stick. Everyone laughed and smiled and even our Home Manager Bella participated.
Our catering team did a fantastic job of providing appropriate food and drink, including Hawaiian pizza, fruit salads, 'yellow sand' cupcakes' and cocktails that looked just like a Hawaiian sunrise.
As the day drew to a close, our residents danced to reggae music, the macarena and classics from the Beach Boys.
At Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we value the importance of not only providing our residents with a daily activities programme that encourages them to live a varied and active lifestyle but also celebrating events both big and small.
Whether it's a seasonal occasion, national holiday, or a resident's anniversary, our team will help our residents to celebrate no matter what. It's important to us that residents can still commemorate days that are special to them and by marking these occasions with parties and events, it gives our residents something to look forward to as well as opportunities to socialise.
We look forward to celebrating more upcoming events with our residents, relatives and members of the local community.
