After the recent news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, the residents of Ridgeway Rise have spent time thinking about what the news meant to them. For one resident, it brought back a very fond memory of when she met the late Queen Elizabeth.

The late Queen Elizabeth had an impact on so many people across the world, and following her recent passing, one of our residents has spent time reminiscing about the time she so fortunately met the Queen at the Maundy Money Ceremony in 2018 at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

Our resident has ever so kindly written an account of the time she met the late Queen Elizabeth for us to share:

"Ron my husband of 71 years was selected to receive the Maundy money, for services rendered to the church and community. One person only was allowed to accompany the recipient and it was decided that our daughter-in-law Alywn would attend the ceremony with Ron.

We spent the previous night at a Windsor hotel and the following day, Ron who had not been feelign well on the journey was not able to be present at the service. Informing the palace that he was too ill to attend, I was told that I could take his place. Imagine my reaction, no new dress, gloves or hat - completely unprepared.

Arriving at the chapel, we were shown to our seats and were warned that we did not have to converse with the Queen, but only to answer "Thank you Ma'am" as she gave you the money. The royal proctor spoke to her and then she said "I'm sorry your husband is ill, show him the money and I hope he recovers soon" and passed to the next person.

A reception followed in an adjoining state room where we were given refreshments and mingled with the other 94 recipients. I was thrilled that I had met the Queen, Her Majesty was very kind and generous with her time, beautifully dressed as always and I felt very privileged to have been in her presence".

We feel incredibly grateful to have had this story shared with us and to have been able to reminisce and pay our respects together as a home.

Our deepest condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
